Programs > Jericho
America is the land of second chance - and when the gates of the prison open, the path ahead should lead to a better life.
Program Overview
Of all life's transitions, perhaps the most difficult is returning to the community from prison. Based in the East Baltimore neighborhood of Collington Square, Jericho is a program, funded by the Department of Labor’s Prisoner Re-Entry Initiative, that helps men rebuild their lives and return to positive, productive roles in the workplace, in their the family, and in the community.
Jericho participants meet weekdays from 8:30 am to 3 pm. We emphasize employment readiness training and job placement while providing recovery counseling, case management, and a network of partner service providers to meet participants’ many needs. Our goal is to foster a new sense of self-worth and encourage a commitment to productive, healthy lifestyles.
Our clients are referred to us by a variety of organizations, including the Department of Corrections, Mondawmin’s One-Stop Center, South Baltimore Station Homeless Shelter for Men, Light Street Housing, New Vision House of Hope, S.A.F.E. House, Weisman House, and Carrington House.
In our employment training, we address barriers to employment, anger management, on-the-job comportment, resume writing, completing job applications, and job search techniques.
Twice weekly recovery support groups begin to modify the behaviors that lead to participants’ incarceration and help them identify and avoid pitfalls that lead to relapse and recidivism.
Each client receives a bus pass for transportation, interview clothing, and money for to get a Maryland state identification social security card, and birth certificates, as needed.
